Dumplin' by Julie Murphy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
It wasn't another Big Fat Manifesto but Dumplin' (or, to call her by her real name, Willowdean) is less strident about her size and more like an average girl who happens to be fat. Problems with friends, boyfriends, mom, jobs and all those typical things are more the issue than mere size - a good thing, IMVHO, because that should be the focus, not just weight. For that reason, four stars. Willowdean makes a good role model for those teens; but beyond that, the plot is unremarkable.
